Box Score

WICHITA , Kansas . August 5—The nine-time Clark Griffith League champions, the Vienna Senators, continued to stand out in the National Baseball Congress World Series.

The Senators, ranked sixth in the nation by PG Crosschecker, shutout the Kenai Peninsula Oilers 2-0 Sunday evening at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Zac Blakney, a right-handed pitcher from the University of Montevallo , threw a dominating game to help lead the Senators (43-6 overall) to the victory.

The contest between the Vienna Senators and the Kenai Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska Baseball League represented a fight between two foremost summer collegiate baseball leagues. The Vienna victory not only helped the team stay alive in the World Series, but also showed the nation the level of depth and talent in the Clark Griffith League.

The Clark Griffith League is one of the charter members of the All-American Amateur Baseball Association and boasts 10 AAABA titles. The CGL is also designated a Premier League by the National Baseball Congress, and has been represented in the World Series in Wichita , Kansas since 2004. The Alaska Baseball League holds a place with the Cape Cod League and the Northwoods League as one of the top leagues in the nation.

The NBC Committee allows every team to pick up more players for the tournament. The Oilers picked up eight great players, effectively making them an Alaska League All-Star roster and one of the teams to beat in the event.

The Senators' victory shows that the Clark Griffith League club can take on and conquer the best teams in the nation at the World Series.

With its own highly talented core of players, from schools such as Tulane, Pepperdine, University of New Orleans, University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the University of Michigan, the Senators ran away with a second-consecutive Clark Griffith League championship and charged up the standings to a team-best No. 6 standing by PG Crosschecker in the Summer 16 Rankings.

The Senators look to win the Clark Griffith League's first NBC World Series this summer. Vienna will continue its campaign for the championship on August 6 at 5 p.m. CST.

The Clark Griffith League is proud of the success of the Vienna Senators at the NBC World Series and the success of the McLean Raiders at the AAABA National Tournament this summer.
