VIENNA SENATORS CONQUER FAIRFAX NATIONALS
Senators end regular season with 10-2 victory

FAIRFAX , Va. July 26—In the last regular season game of the season, the Vienna Senators traveled to Paul VI High School to take on the second-place Fairfax Nationals. The Senators (39-5), who have clinched their ninth Clark Griffith League title, won the game 10-2.

Darrin Campbell made the start for the Senators and picked up his second win of the season. Kyle Kretchmer of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and Mason Griffin of Tulane also made an appearance in the game. The Senators pitchers held the Nationals to just three hits in the game.

The Senators offense totaled 12 hits to help power the team to victory. Ryan Eden went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Brandon Casamassima went 2-for-3 with an RBI as well. Ryan Heroy went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI.

Vienna got on board in the second inning. Third baseman Brandon Casamassima led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. He went to second on a stolen base. The Nationals catcher tried to throw Casamassima out at second, but his throw went wild and Casamassima moved to third. Casamassima came around to score as Xavier Qualls hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Senators piled on another run and went up 2-0 in the third inning. Left fielder Kyle Page came around to score as Nick Wheeler grounded out.

Vienna chalked up to more runs in the fifth. Center fielder Ryan Eden hit his first home run of the season. It was a hard hit ball to left field, which made a satisfying “thunk” noise as it hit the football bleachers. Second baseman Matt Gaski came around to score later in the inning on an error.

The Nationals scored their only two runs when Ty Boyles hit a 2-run home run to left field in the sixth inning to make it 4-2.

But the Senators offense wasn't finished. In the top of the seventh, Brandon Casamassima hit an RBI single up the middle to bring home Sam Honeck. Ryan Heroy came around to score as right fielder Drew Allain hit a sacrifice fly to right.

Vienna exploded for four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Catcher Steve Mortiz scored as Matt Gaski hit a sacrifice fly. Sam Honeck slugged an RBI single to left center field to bring home Cody Lassley of Wichita State . Ryan Heroy brought home Sam Honeck with an RBI double. Heroy crossed the plate as the tenth run as Drew Allain hit an RBI single to center.

Mason Griffin, last year's league Most Outstanding Pitcher, shut down Fairfax in the ninth inning to secure the 10-2 win.

The Senators will play in the Jacobs Cup Post-Season Tournament on Friday, July 27. From there, the Senators will travel to Wichita , Kansas to participate in the National Baseball Congress World Series. It will be the team's second straight appearance in the World Series.
