2007 SENATORS MAKE CLG, CLUB HISTORY |
VIENNA, Va. July 31—The Vienna Senators (39-5) have sealed their second consecutive Clark Griffith League championship under the helm of manager Chris Burr, local standout from Madison High School and George Mason University.
Burr led Arlington Senators to league titles and All-American Amateur Baseball Association National Championships from 1998 to 2001. He also led the team to a Clark Griffith League title in 2003.
The Senators have clinched the Clark Griffith League pennant for the ninth time in club history this season. The Senators are the only club to have won nine league championships, so the 2007 Vienna Senators are truly making history.
The 39 wins this season is also more than the total wins the team collected in its 2005 and 2006 seasons. In 2005, the club went 31-13 and in 2006 the team was 30-10. In fact, PG Crosschecker announced on July 17, when the Senators were 27-4, the club had the best record in summer baseball. PG Crosschecker ranked the Senators sixth in the nation on July 30. The No. 6 in the nation ranking is the highest in team history.
The Senators clinched the Inaugural Jacobs Cup post-season tournament championship, coming back from 2-1 to win 6-2 with a five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth.
The Senators are now on their way to Wichita , Kansas , to compete in the National Baseball Congress World Series for the second consecutive year.
